March, Revisited

It’s been a strange year, with its unexpected highs and unimaginable lows, and everything in between. It still is, as nothing has been resolved, nothing is settled. And yet, there is a sense of slow awakening around. Things have changed, shifted, moved. Sometimes it feels as if everything is spinning so fast, you can hardly keep your balance. Other times, you feel stuck in a Groundhog Day; everything is the same. Or we are soaring to new heights while staying in place. We grow exponentially, from inside. The new depth is inward.

The Earth is about to welcome Spring. The trees are slowly waking up, showing off their buds. The flowers will appear when it’s their turn. But people are utterly confused. There is no going back, everyone seems to understand that, intuitively. Going forward will take a new type of contract, among people and between people and our planet. What do we value in our present to take into our future? How do we want to relate, to ourselves and each other? The answers have not arrived yet. They will come, I trust. But it’s hard to quit the habit of trying to predict what happens next– we are so used to our guessing game. Thinking out loud kind of calms you down a bit. We humans are so uncomfortable with uncertainty that we‘d rather make it up and live in the illusion than sit quietly with the unknown, watching it unfold.

The light blue of the March sky is different from the frosty blue of the winter. Even the grey on a gloomy day is different, luring you in to find the light behind it. The birds are chirping again, flying from roof to roof, occasionally stopping on a tree. Shall we begin again?

  1. Katya, beautifully written and true indeed. I have gotten pretty good at watching the uncertain unfold in my personal life and in the outside world:) I don’t think there was one single thing in my life that went the way I thought it would. And I stopped desiring certainty.

2021 г., 6:00 Katerina Bodovski Writings :

  3. I just love this! Your writings are so inspiring and so soothing at the same time! You have really changed the way I look at the trees, flowers, birds and all the other forms of life that surround us. A great big thank you for that!

    1. Thank you so much, David!! I’ve started this website about 2.5 years ago as a way to express things that do not fit into academic publications😄. To be perfectly honest, I enjoy this type of writing much more😊
